Your Southwest Chapter of the Idaho Press Club is at it again.
Join us as we unite two distant fiefdoms: The public relations professionals and working journalists.
This summit [PDF] will bring together the hacks and the flacks, to discuss the ins and outs of working together in the news process. Hear reporters explain what works best for them, whether working on a tight deadline or managing a big project. Listen to PR professionals give tips on how to pitch story ideas and manage the flow of information. How do PR professionals balance the need for good information with protecting their client? How do reporters work with, or against, the PR machine? What happens when things go wrong on either side?
Together, these media experts, some of whom have worked on both sides of the fence, will create a new diplomacy for our changing media world. Or at least, some new ideas.

If you haven’t heard, Boise State Radio is throwing itself a 30th anniversary party and picnic in Julia Davis Park on September 30, and everyone is invited! Admission is free and the afternoon will be filled with live jazz, rock and classical music from some of Idaho’s best musicians. Performing in the bandshell throughout the day will be Kevin Kirk & Onomatopoeia, Curtis Stigers, Ned Evett and Bill Coffey, and Jill Rowley and Tom Tompkins. There will be lots of food, and a beer and wine garden.
Here is a poster describing the event (PDF). It should be a great day of music in the park.

On all our payments pages we state “You do not need to be a member of Paypal to use their services.” And this is true. However, one of our members observed that was not the case; Paypal was requiring a sign up to make payments.
We’ve researched this and it appears that one item in our CCC account’s profile had been switched off. This is now rectified, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
If you’ve found yourself signed up with a Paypal account that you didn’t want, here are the steps to close it (from Paypal’s own site):
How do I close my PayPal account?
You can close your PayPal account from your Profile. If you close your account, all of your outstanding transactions will be canceled immediately, and your remaining account balance, if any, will be mailed to you.
Here’s How:
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Click the Profile subtab.
- Click the Close Account link in the Account Information column.
- Click Continue.
- If you wish to continue, click Close Account.
I have a distinct impression that this was not what Justin Foster was talking about during yesterday’s lunch time presentation, The New Rules of PR, when he said “Be your own publisher,” but it looks like the Western Canyon Chronicle (serving Greenleaf, Notus, Parma, and Wilder) is for sale. Their offices are in Parma and they can be contacted via Christina at (208) 722-5610.
Just in case you’ve been in a coma for the past couple of years, a plethora of new buzzwords has insinuated itself into our discussions of marketing communications. Podcasts. Blogs. Vidcasts. Citizen journalists. Social media. Do these sound familiar? The fact is that whether or not you or your organization is utilizing these concepts, they are changing the way we communicate about our products, our markets and ourselves.
Collectively, these buzzwords have been lumped under the rubric of New Media and Web 2.0. On May 15, Capital City Communicators will dedicate its Spring Summer to a consideration of how new media techniques are shaping our conversation with our customers – “conversation” being the operative word here. The power of new media is, in short, its power to foster and sustain interactive communications.

WOTT 2007 is proud to introduce Dr. Jill Murray, clinical psychologist and bestselling author of But I Love Him, Destructive Relationships, and her most recent book, But He Never Hit Me. Her wisdom and counsel has been sought by national television shows (such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, CNN’s Paula Zahn Now, Good Morning America, John Walsh and Dr. Laura), over 100 newspapers and magazines, and over 225 radio talk shows.
